What is Wire Rod?

Wire rod generally contains a diameter of 5.2 – 42mm there are different types of shapes such as round, square, semicircular, and hexagonal. The main factor that determines the technical parameters is what material the wire is made of. Wire rod is made by drawing wire through hot metal shafts. The shafts form the metal into long strands of metal by compressing the sides from different angles, while this method is called hot drawing the metal is not preheated it is just heated as it goes through each of the shafts to form the metal. It is then rolled on to a spool to be cooled further, it can be cooled by the air or cooled using specialized fans. 

Applications

Wire rod is used for many different products. Depending upon how it is cold formed, and heat treated, wire is used, for example, to produce not only wire ropes, barbed wire, wire mesh and nails, but also springs, welded wire mesh and reinforcement wire. One particularly frequent cause of damage is rust due to seawater, rain, condensation water in the means of transport, cargo sweat or condensation inside the packaging. Unsuitable means of transport, ships with poor hatch covers or without ventilation facilities, damaged containers, uncovered railroad freight cars and trucks, incorrect storage in the open, use of unsuitable tarpaulins, exposed loading in wet weather conditions, and variations in temperature and climatic conditions during long voyages may result in rust damage.
